Gov. DeWine Visits WCCC

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine toured our Main Campus Sept. 12, and visited Engineering & Robotics, Welding, and Information Technology labs. Several students talked with the governor about their career fields and future plans. Pictured, Gov. DeWine speaks with Welding Senior Connor O'Bryan, Carlisle, while Mike Mooney from Hamilton Safe looks on.

September VBP Key to EPLM Start

Roco Miller, AESOhio, is the September 2022 WCCC Valued Business Partner. In his nomination, Adult Education Electrical Power Line Mechanic Coordinator John Sullivan said Mr. Miller was instrumental in starting the EPLM program at WCCC.

“The program wouldn't exist today without Roco donating time, expertise, and training equipment for the startup and on-going operation of the program,” Mr. Sullivan said. “Much of the equipment and tools used in the program were donated by Roco and his employer, AESOhio (formerly Dayton Power & Light). Roco routinely sends field operations updates so that we stay in step with changes in the industry---especially with regard to field safety and equipment issues. In addition, Roco has been an active member of the Electrical Power Line Mechanic Advisory Board from the program's inception. We can always count on Roco's participation in our meetings, his input on hiring practices, compensation, and employer expectations. He visits classes and provides valuable insight and inspiration for our students. His involvement helps us to remain relevant, safe, and in tune with the employer's needs. Roco is an outstanding individual and employer representative. And although employers regularly compete for the same pool of talent, Roco helps build alliances and share resources with other companies for the betterment of the industry overall.”

Students Help with Beagle Rescue

Veterinary Science students had hands-on experience recently helping the Humane Association of Warren County process the intake of 37 beagles rescued from a mass breeding facility in Virginia where around 4,000 beagles were removed.

The students helped bathe, brush, vaccinate, examine for heartworms, treat and in general give loving care to the frightened pups, who soon warmed up to the attention. All were adopted from the Warren County facility into good homes. The students are still helping with follow-up care, including spay and neutering.

We are so proud of our students for how they showed maturity and compassion as they handled the situation.

New Welding Lab Breaks Ground

The WCCC Board of Education celebrated the groundbreaking for our new Welding Lab recently. The district has carefully budgeted for this project and we look forward to completion next fall. Welders are in great demand in our workforce, and this expansion will benefit our local economy. Welding Juniors James Harnois, Franklin, and Charlie Pinnick, Lebanon, will experience their senior year in the new lab. They were happy to help board members break ground for the project!

Spotlight on Success: '22 Hall of Famer

Kristin Montgomery Stephens, WCCC Culinary Class of 2012, was selected for induction into the WCCC Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame for 2022. She teaches Family and Consumer Science in the WCCC satellite program at Springboro High School. She was nominated by her former instructor, Kate Cole.

After graduating from Little Miami and the WCCC, she received an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts and a Restaurant Management Certification from Sinclair Community College. She became the Culinary Arts Teaching Assistant at the WCCC from 2017 to 2020, then accepted a full time Culinary teaching position at a school in Dayton. She earned her CTE teaching license through Bowling Green State University in July 2022. She was hired back at WCCC in 2021, teaching FCS at Springboro.

“I would love to return to teaching a Culinary Arts program in the future,” she said. “I have a strong passion for making and preparing food and I enjoy sharing my knowledge with students and observing them using that knowledge in the classroom and during catering events. I have greatly enjoyed my time as a student, a banquet advisor, a Culinary Assistant, and now a CTE teacher with the WCCC. I look forward to what my future holds with the school district.” Read more HERE.
