If you're looking
for a friendly community that has worked hard to preserve
its past, while also making great strides to become a benchmark
for technology, industry and community development, then Lebanon
welcomes you.
When Lebanon was laid out in 1802, only two houses stood
and two streets ran through town. Today, Lebanon has a population
of nearly 17,000 and growing. Early settlers to the area thought
the trees covering the hillside were like those in the Middle
Eastern country of Lebanon; thus, Lebanon's nickname "Cedar
City."
Lebanon and its citizens have played an active role in guiding
the history of the country. Native son Tom Corwin was the
12th governor of Ohio, U.S. Senator, U.S. Secretary of Treasury
and U.S. Minister to Mexico. John McLean, founder of the Western
Star, Ohio's oldest newspaper, was a member of the cabinets
of both President Adams and Jackson and an associate justice
of the U.S. Supreme Court. The Golden Lamb Hotel, which opened
in 1803 and still operates in its original location, hosted
many presidents and dignitaries who passed through Lebanon
during the country's emergent years.
Lebanon
is widely becoming known as a tourist attraction, with its
many points of interest. The Warren County Historical Museum
is recognized as one of the nation's most outstanding county
museums. The Glendower State Memorial, erected between 1836
and 1840, provides a classic example of residential Greek
Revival architecture and a natural setting for many elegant
Empire and Victorian furnishings from Warren County's past.
Lebanon is also home to the Turtle Creek Valley Railway, where
passengers follow an old stage coach route passing meadow,
pasture, a rippling creek and wildflowers along the way. Shopping
has even become an art in Lebanon, boasting over 80 specialty
shops offering one-of-a-kind antiques, furniture, fine art,
jewelry, collectables, distinctive clothing and much more.
There's so much to see and learn about Lebanon, and this
